RELAY FOR LIFE 2011

The Gateway Theatre Guild put together a team again for this year's Relay For Life.  On June 3rd from 7PM to 7AM, we walked proudly at the relay to help raise funds and awareness for cancer research.

We destroyed our target this year and made a total of $4,024.00 to help cancer research.

Thank you all so much for helping us fight the fight and getting one step closer to finding a cure!

MADD & MTO - Crash Project demonstrating accident on film ~ Cogeco coverage!

Crash makeup

Recently, 2 GTG members & Widdifield Secondary Drama Students performed as victims in a mock crash.

The 90 minute re-enactment was perfomed to show teens what happens after a motor vehicle accident in which drugs and alcohol are used.   Local, firefighters, EMS Paramedic service and North Bay police were also involved in the re-enactment and actually perfomed the duties that they  naturally would do if this were a real crash scene. The very realistic makeup was applied by three members of Canadian Forces Base North Bay who have received special training in applying this type of 'trauma' makeup.

"Mock crash paints scary picture for students"  quote from North Bay Nugget

Date: Wednesday Feb 25,2009
Place: Memorial Gardens  and attended by 700 Grade 11 students

Organized by: Wendy Prieur Chairwoman and  Drug awareness Committee and North Bay Focus ( Stuart Kidd). The message they wanted to get acoss to the teens was " we want the students to think and understand how their actions affect others, to not drink and drive and don't take drugs and drive"

GTG members

Linsey Callaghan

played the part of teen  'Sara' who is thrown through the windsheild ( she was not wearing her seatbelt) after helping a friend who is vomitting in the back seat while car is moving.  Sara is killed as a result of the accident.

Quote:  "I could hear the car being torn apart and I was almost breaking into tears." ( while she was lying on the hood of the car)

Rhona Kenny

played the part of Sara's  mother who arrives on the scene to find her son injured and in a daze, a crashed car, police are present and then is told  later that her daughter is dead.

Quote:  "It was an emotional rollercoaster! seeing all the injured/dead teens with realistic injuries, was devastating!"

From the Heart short film contest winner

Congratulations to some of our GTG members

On February 14th, the North Bay Symphony Orchestra played live in concert the scores to the winning films made by local film makers.  Among these 4 selected films, was the Grand Prize Winner "Push", by Lieann Koivukoski and Marla Hayes (one-act play workshopped at GTG Open Theatre Night January 2009).

The four films showed are winners of the From The Heart competition and were selected by well-known film judges from outside this community, from seven excellent entries.

The Celebration of From the Heart Short Films were also screened at the film festival at the Galaxy Theatre, North Bay Mall on February 15th.
