About the instructor

Laurel Smith (Director) adjudicated the Quonta Festival this past season in North Bay.  Last summer, Laurel directed the Shaw in the City! production of Candida for Burning Passions Theatre after having directed the sold-out Mrs. Warren’s Profession at the 2007 Toronto Fringe.  As well, Laurel directed the premiere of her own play, the crush of beauty, at Summerworks Theatre Festival in Toronto.  In 2008, she was one of two directors chosen as part of the Shaw Festival’s Director’s Project, where she assisted on two productions, and directed a studio production of Shaw’s Overruled.  With a career as a director and adjudicator that spans 15 years, she holds an MA in Drama from the University of Toronto, a BA in Opera Performance from Wilfred Laurier, and an MBA in Arts and Media Administration from York University.  Most recently, Laurel became Artistic Director of a new summer theatre company, the Classic Theatre Festival, in Perth, Ontario, which just had its inaugural season in the summer of 2010.
